Flat tire

Last Friday, our car was supposed to be ready to pick up at Maaco. Shannon called them in the afternoon and they told him that they would call him first thing tomorrow (Saturday). Well, it turns out that they are closed on Saturdays and when he called, it just rang and rang. He then called Enterprise to extend our reservation until Monday and they agreed.

Just to get out of the house, we like to go on short drives around the city.  It's nice to get out of the house considering we get bored at home and we don't have a place to go every day.  Today was just that, we wanted to go out for a drive.  Well, as soon as we pulled out of the parking lot of our complex, we noticed that the rental wasn't driving as smoothly as it should.  Then a yellow warning light went on and thankfully we don't live too far from a gas station and pulled in there.  Shannon saw that one of the tires was flat. Thankfully, I brought our pre-paid free government supported cell phone with us so Shannon could call Enterprise.

I walked Kyle home.  He was fine on the way home until we passed the playground and we had to stop there to play.  It's freezing cold outside so I didn't want to stay out too long.  As we got closer to home, he started having a fit.  He was set on going in the car for a ride (he loves that).  When things don't go the way they're supposed to, he will have a tantrum and scream!

Shannon called me a few minutes after we arrived home to tell me that he gave them our home number since he doesn't know the cell number.  This is just one of the times that I wish we both had our own cell phones to where we can communicate via text or phone any time!  I am just glad I brought the cell phone because I almost didn't since we rarely use it.  The only reason I bring it is "just in case."

Special Olympics ribbon

Kyle came home with his first ribbon!  Apparently he participated in the Special Olympics at school!  Even though Kyle had no idea what he was playing, I am pretty sure he had fun!  He loves being active, playing and running around!

I've never seen the Special Olympics in action, but playing in this type of set up teaches the kids confidence, having fun, sportsmanship, and so much more!

Mirror Image

We went to Walmart yesterday. We bought some food with our WIC a few other things.

In addition, we bought Kyle a mirror! It's the kind that hangs on the back of a door, I saw the same one at Kmart and Walmart had it for $4.99 cheaper! We bought Kyle a mirror because my MIL has a mirror that hangs on the wall above a table that's a little higher than a desk and Kyle would always climb up on top of the table just so he can see himself in the mirror! When I think back, Kyle has always liked mirrors. When he was an infant, I would stand in front of a mirror and he would just stare at himself in amazement. I would ask him if he's looking at his twin.

We have the mirror leaning against the wall next to the bed, that way if it gets knocked over, it will fall on the bed and not the floor. He's quickly figured out how to put the mirror back against the wall when he knocks it over.

Kyle played with the mirror for a bit yesterday and he's been playing in front of the mirror for most of today! He loves taking his socks off and then putting them back on himself, or even taking his shirt and pants off and put them back on. Now he can watch himself do all of those things! Free entertainment for our 3 1/2 year old!

I have noticed that Kyle is truly asserting his independence! A few days ago and even this morning, I picked out his clothes (as I do everyday), and he doesn't like the shirt I choose. Kyle and I go through all of his shirts and he refuses all of them! LOL So today, he went without a shirt!

He enjoys playing in front of the mirror, making faces at himself, taking off his clothes, and putting them back on.

Say Ahhh!

Kyle loves playing with flashlights, especially a mini maglite flashlight. Tonight his Dad taught him how to say "ahhh." You have to hold the light towards your mouth and say "ahhh" and then point the light to Kyle's mouth and he'll say "ahhh." LOL

I found a preschool taught through a church that is close by. They had a sign with their website, so I looked them up. I emailed the director asking if they have any openings for a 3 year old. I need to call her this week. I've been talking to Shannon about wanting to enroll Kyle in preschool. I need to talk to the director for more information, but I am leaning towards enrolling Kyle there. Kyle could meet other kids his age and have lots of fun playing and learning. I also like this place because it's really affordable as well!

My in-laws have a busy day tomorrow. They have to take their dog to the vet for an operation, they also have to take their truck in to get it reupholstered, then they need to pick up their seat cushion that is getting re-stuffed. Lastly, they are having their new refrigerator delivered!

Kyle's hair is growing so long and Shannon wants to shave it. We may do that on Tuesday, since it's supposed to rain on Monday.

Since Earth Day is this week, I wanted to see if there was a local event we could go to and found one! It's next Saturday at the park and free to attend. It looks like there will be lots of family friendly activities.

The talking toys

Shannon brought out 2 of Kyle's toys, they are the toys that talk/make music, etc. He changed the batteries and now they work again. Kyle has been playing with them here and there! Hopefully they will get HIM talking!

Every so often, we'll put away his toys and bring out "new" ones that he hasn't played with in awhile. So it's make more fun and different for him.

Just like Daddy

For the last few days, Shannon's been digging 2 big holes in the ground for his parents' garden. He actually finished the last of the digging yesterday!

Kyle is usually outside playing around the yard. Yesterday, we noticed he started imitating his daddy. Shannon would dig up the dirt, fill up the wheelbarrow and then bring it down by the creek (outside of the fenced yard) and dump it.

Yesterday, Kyle started using his tricycle as a "wheelbarrow" and go up and down the yard. He would bring his tricycle down to the fence and wait for his daddy to dump the dirt and then walk up the yard with his tricycle.

He would also use a garden hose extender nozzle as a "shovel" and walk with that up and down the yard and even pretend to dig up the dirt!

He may not talk yet, but he sure can observe and imitate!

We Voted!

Shannon had today off! We didn’t go vote until evening time. I made sure Kyle had something to eat before we left, I wasn’t sure if there would be a long line. Kyle was really good while we were waiting in line and voting. He kept looking around at everyone and listening to them talk. We both got the “I voted” sticker and I noticed Kyle had one on too! Shannon said they gave him his own sticker, so I thought that was nice of them.

We are planning on going to Chuck E. Cheese this Thursday! I am excited. I signed up for the e-club where they email you coupons but they don’t really apply to us. They have coupons for extra tokens when you purchase so many of them. Kyle is too young to be playing the video games or other games. I just want him to play and having fun.

Kyle has been into playing with socks! He loves going through the laundry basket putting on our socks and running around the house with his dad’s undershirts. At least he’s learning how to put socks on!

I found some promotional opportunities for Shannon at another hotel (owned by the same company he works for) in Colorado. Since he is still new to the company and still learning the computer system, he’s going to talk to his department head about learning more and his wanting to move up.
