His First Visit To His New School

Kyle starts school in just a few days!  He will be starting 6th grade at a brand new school, in a new school district.

We got the apartment!

We are approved for the new apartment!  I am looking forward to lower rent, more space and a full size washer and dryer.  However, I am not looking forward to changing our address with our banks, utilities, etc.  Also, Kyle will have to switch schools.  Hopefully he can finish out the school year at his current school, rather than start at a new school with just a few weeks left by the time we move.

She asked for our move in date and I told her “sometime in May.”  I also asked for a bottom floor and she quickly assigned us one.  It sounded like they have plenty of apartments open, so I am really glad we were able to get a bottom floor.  She also gave me our address!  I have the numbers and apartment number but no street name.  I am sure we can find it within the complex.
I received a new book to read and review.  I am looking forward to reading it.  It's about a teenager girl who "goes vintage" as in 1962.  It looks like an interesting read!

Christmas Eve

This afternoon, we went grocery shopping for a few things.  It was nice for all of us to get out of the house together.  Kyle even helped push the cart to the parking lot, unload the bags and put the cart away.

Tonight, I stumbled onto a book I had downloaded on my Kindle and started reading a few chapters and found other books like it to read.  I have been reading books on living frugally and saving money.  I learned a lot of new ideas as well as ideas I have already been using.

Then I found a book on my Kindle that I don't remember downloading.  I looked it up on Amazon and looked for more free ebooks to download.  Now I have a ton of new books to read.

2:30am Sunday

Well, I learned my lesson! While at the dinner party, I drank about two glasses of Pepsi! I don't normally drink soda or even Pepsi, but I was thirsty. Now, I can't sleep! I did some reading for fun and reading for college though. I am trying to stay a bit ahead in college by working on assignments a week early. So far, so good! My first class is Psychology and it is mainly about learning about yourself and getting the hang of college. There are times that I get discouraged, but I remind myself why I want my Bachelor's degree.

New Year's Eve

I can't believe today is the last day of 2011!  Although, that means tomorrow is my 9th Wedding Anniversary

I am looking forward to the New Year!  I just started a new project.  I am organizing virtual book tours for authors.  Since I love to read and review books, I decided to do this.

I am still unsure if I should go back to college at this time.  I am loving what I am doing now with organizing book tours.  This allows me to be a stay at home mom and earn a little extra income.

Mini-Getaway

We just got back a little while ago from a mini-getaway!  We decided to stay two nights in Cherokee, NC.  We stayed one night at Fairfield Inn & Suites and then stayed the second night at Harrah's.  Our hotel at Harrah's was comped.  We were also able to comp our breakfast from this morning as well as a few other purchases.

On our first night, I ended up finishing a book I had already started and was able to write the review the same day.  Our second night, I didn't have internet access because Harrah's charges their guests to use their Wi-Fi, so instead, I started reading a new book and already over half way done!

On a whim, we decided to get away.  Thursday afternoon, we just decided to go.  While Shannon made the hotel reservations, I packed our stuff.  Kyle was easy to pack and I packed my clothes pretty quickly.  The "hardest" part was gathering our toiletries.  We were able to fit all of our stuff into one suitcase!  It only took us 45 minutes to get packed, make hotel reservations, and out the door.

Now that we're back, I am catching up on laundry and just trying to get back into our normal every day schedule.  Thankfully, I only have 2 loads of clothes to do!

Came home to a call back!

Today was our weekly laundry day!  I ended up doing 4 loads of laundry: dark clothes, white clothes, towels, and sheets!  Hooray for clean clothes!  Hooray for clean sheets!  After we had all of our laundry in the washing machines, my MIL and I sat down and she (jokingly) said that I should be wearing my wedding ring.  I laughed and said that Shannon and I both don't wear ours.  She said that all the guys in the laundromat were staring at me with their tongues hanging out!  I did notice that some of them were looking at me, but when that happens, I usually pretend I don't notice.  I guess it was so noticeable that the guy who works at the laundromat made a comment to my MIL!  LOL

We stopped by the library after our laundry was done.  My MIL checks out DVD movies each week.  They had some books for sale, so I ended up buying a hardcover book that looked like an interesting read to me.  The book was only $1!

When we got home, I put our clean clothes away and had a salad!  Yum!  Then I needed something sweet so I ended up having 2 chocolate pudding cups!  LOL

I also noticed there was a message on the phone and it turned out I received a call back!  I re-applied for Sears just yesterday and they wanted me to come in to interview!  I had applied to Sears before and my application expired over the weekend, so I had to reapply!  I set up my interview for this Wednesday at 2pm!  The lady who called me sounds like she doesn't mess around.  She asked me what my availability is.  She then confessed she's had too many people say things like, "Oh, I can't work nights." Or, "I can't work such and such time."  I told her I have open availability, I just don't want to come in at 6am and leave at 11pm, that sort of thing.  She said, "oh no, we don't have shifts like that."  So, we'll see how this goes.

Happy Father's Day

The cable is still out. They are sending a technician out tomorrow! I am still waiting for my laptop battery and cord to arrive. Shannon used "overnight shipping" and somehow we think that's a scam.

Last night I took the time to read to Kyle. I was able to read the entire book to him without him trying to turn the page before I was done reading. Then, right before bedtime, he handed me the same book and I read it to him again. After that, I told him it was bedtime. I hope we can get him more books soon.

I also want to make flashcards of the alphabet. One side will be the letter and the other side will have a simple word. Shannon said we should just buy a set of flashcards! LOL I don't mind either way. I want to get Kyle some DVDs by Leapfrog that teach the alphabet and simple words. I'll see how the flashcards work.

I plan on calling a pediatrician on Monday to make an appointment for Kyle! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to get him in to see a doctor. Shannon is finally on board to apply for WIC (which we automatically qualify for). Now it's just a matter of getting him to take us to the office to sign up!

I applied for a few jobs through craigslist for Shannon. I am always cautious when using that site.
