Kyle starts school in just a few days! He will be starting 6th grade at a brand new school, in a new school district.
We had his IEP (individual education plan) Meeting today, which we did not expect. We thought it was just a mini-orientation so that Kyle could see his classroom and a tour of the school from his teacher. Thankfully, Kyle was pretty calm during the meeting. He was very clingy.
Kyle started the day with not feeling well. He was throwing up. He pretty much slept all morning until about an hour before we had to leave.
Our one-on-one time with his teacher gave Kyle a chance to see and explore his classroom. I also like that his teacher took us to the cafeteria and showed us where they sit for lunch. They all sit at one table in the corner (near the bathrooms).
Kyle is the only 6th grader in his class (they are all 8th graders). The teacher said he will be the "baby" of the class.
As for transportation, they will set him up as a bus rider but it will take a few days. So, that means we will have to drop him off and pick him up for the first week or so.
The teacher gave me her cell phone number. She mentioned she keeps in touch with the parents via text, which is perfect. That's how his last teacher was! So I definitely don't mind texting her.
I am confident that this school, teachers, speech therapist and any other adult who will work with him are very positive and upbeat! It seems very similar to his former school. We were worried about the schools out here based on what other local parents were saying.
I am glad summer is almost over and Kyle goes back to school. I am not looking forward to getting up early again! Middle school starts super early!
