Christmas Eve

This afternoon, we went grocery shopping for a few things.  It was nice for all of us to get out of the house together.  Kyle even helped push the cart to the parking lot, unload the bags and put the cart away.

Tonight, I stumbled onto a book I had downloaded on my Kindle and started reading a few chapters and found other books like it to read.  I have been reading books on living frugally and saving money.  I learned a lot of new ideas as well as ideas I have already been using.

Then I found a book on my Kindle that I don't remember downloading.  I looked it up on Amazon and looked for more free ebooks to download.  Now I have a ton of new books to read.

I dyed my hair for the first time!

This afternoon I decided to dye my hair.  A few days ago, I saw a commercial for hair dye that was perfect for those who have never dyed their hair, the hair dye is in the form of foam!  It can only be purchased at Walmart and it was only $9!  The product is called Fat Foam.  I chose "Dark Brown" because I wasn't ready to go BOLD just yet.  Using this product was really easy!  I can't wait to try a lighter color!  It gave me the confidence to dye my hair again at home. 

I do have to admit, I was worried I would turn my hair purple or somehow do it all wrong.  This kit makes it easy! 

I can describe my hair as "less black" and you can see the brown in sunlight or bright light.  There are also highlights mixed in and not just a solid color.  Overall, I like the color!  It was a nice stepping stone to see how it would all go.  Next time I plan on going lighter. 

Cleaning and More

After all of the excitement with Kyle's speech therapy starting yesterday, we are taking it easy today. I watered some of my plants that needed it and gave them a little shower. I am also catching up on laundry.

The bathroom needed a deep cleaning. I used all green friendly cleaners. I used baking soda and white vinegar to unclog the bathtub and sink drains, hopefully that will work, that will save us from buying draino. I ran out of toilet bowl cleaner so I used baking soda to clean the toilet. I may just stick to using baking soda to clean the toilet, instead of buying toilet bowl cleaner.

I found some recipes to make our own shampoo. But that will have to wait, since we have 2 or 3 bottles of shampoo to use. Just trying to find little ways for us to save money. We're almost out of laundry detergent. My MIL and I are going to make our own laundry detergent, we're curious to see how it will turn out and see if it works!

Sad News

Shannon was laid off from work today. Although, they did offer him a lower paid position. They said in the meantime, they understand if he looks for other jobs, applies for transfers at other properties, etc. They also said they will give him references and letters of recommendations! The General Manager also offered to call the hotels across the street and next door that are being built and recommend him for their properties.

Shannon can also apply for unemployment. I did check the company website for internal opportunities and they have open positions in Colorado and Arkansas. I am not sure if Shannon wants to stay local but he has many opportunities in front of him to choose what he wants to do.

He is going to accept the lower paid position for now, as well as look for other jobs internally.

What a great birthday present for him!

I think this is a good thing in disguise, meaning he will find a higher paying job which will be good for our family.

This also has weird timing because I just ordered our dining set yesterday. It’s time for us to be even more frugal!

They gave him the rest of the day off today to think things over and decide what he’s going to do.
